In 1637 Philemon Dickerson of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England sailed from Ipswich England in May and arrived at Boston, Massachusetts on June 20, 1637 on the ship the "Mary Anne" (the ship master was William Goose.). They went overland to Salem, Mass. Philemon was a tanner both in Salem and in Southold, Long Island to which he moved about 1650. By his wife Mary Paine he had four children baptized in Salem and apparently others born in Southold.
